Caroga Lake Primary Care Center Ribbon-cutting Ceremony

Caroga Lake Primary Care Center Ribbon-cutting Ceremony

Nathan Littauer Hospital & Nursing Home hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the grand opening of the healthcare organization’s Caroga Lake Primary Care Center, Thursday, June 24 at 1:00 p.m.

Nathan Littauer staff and administrative members, The Town of Caroga council/board members, and structural engineers cut the ribbon to the new Caroga Lake Primary Care Center.

“This care center is important for the health and wellness of the people of Caroga,” says Littauer President and CEO Sean Fadale. “We’re immensely proud of this center. This care center underlines our organization’s goal of making healthcare services accessible. We’ve got great people at Nathan Littauer, and now a great facility here in Caroga, all for the great people in the area.”

The healthcare organization began the center’s construction in late September 2020. Previously, Nathan Littauer Hospital leased a portion of the municipal building, owned by the Town of Caroga in 2005.

“In the grand scheme of things, this small building was a huge project,” said Littauer Vice President of Population Health and Executive Director of the Nathan Littauer Foundation, Geoffrey Peck. “All of the planning and construction took place during the pandemic. It was a well-coordinated effort from everyone involved.”

The new Primary Care Center is approximately 1,350 square feet of space, and is next to Caroga’s Town Hall, where the original primary care center was housed.

“We’re here for the people of Caroga,” says Littauer Office Coordinator Elizabeth “Betsy” Oathout. “I’m incredibly happy with how the center turned out, and I think our patients are, too.”

The Caroga Lake Primary Care Center is now accepting new patients. To call and schedule an appointment, or to select a primary care provider, call: (518) 835-2341.

Statement from New York State Health Commissioner Dr. Howard Zucker Regarding Johnson & Johnson Vaccine

“Today the CDC and FDA issued a statement recommending a pause in the use of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine out of an abundance of caution. New York State will follow the CDC and FDA recommendation and pause the use of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine statewide immediately today while these health and safety agencies evaluate next steps. All appointments for Johnson & Johnson vaccines today at New York State mass vaccination sites will be honored with the Pfizer vaccine.

“As the CDC and FDA have said, any adverse events related to the Johnson & Johnson vaccine ‘appear to be extremely rare’ and, ‘People who have received the J&J vaccine who develop severe headache, abdominal pain, leg pain, or shortness of breath within three weeks after vaccination should contact their health care provider.’

“I am in constant contact with the federal government and we will update New Yorkers as more information becomes available.”

This information is current as of: 06/25/2020 2:00 p.m.

Below are the current preventative measures Nathan Littauer Hospital is undertaking to ensure our patients remain safe during the COVID-19 pandemic:

• We are advising those who show symptoms of Coronavirus/COVID-19 to stay home when possible. If they plan to visit our hospital for emergency services, we ask they call ahead of time, or report upon arrival.

• Nathan Littauer Hospital has followed visitation guidelines in accordance with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and the New York State Department of Health (NYSDoH). At our own discretion, we will continue our current visitation rules.

• All foot traffic and entrance into the hospital has been directed to the main entrance. During the weekend, they must use our Emergency Care Center entrance for proper screening.

• Upon entering the hospital, all individuals will be asked questions such as:

“Do you have any of the following symptoms?”

o Fever
o Cough
o Diarrhea
o Sore throat
o Chills, and or repeated shaking with chills
o Muscle pain
o Headache

“Have you recently traveled?”

“Do you have a sudden loss of taste and or smell?”

• All patients, visitors, employees, vendors, and staff are required to wear a mask covering their mouth and nose, when unable to maintain social distancing. Additionally, all individuals who enter the hospital will have their temperature taken.

• For those who have medical appointments, they will be screened, and then directed to the location of their appointment. We advise those who have appointments to strictly go to the location of their appointment, then leave the hospital campus immediately after.

• Waiting rooms have been redesigned to ensure a social distancing measurement of six feet or greater between patients.

• Those who are to be seen at the Respiratory Illness Clinic (RIC) are asked to enter through the Primary Care Entrance, as signs instruct, instead of traveling through the hospital.

• We have resumed elective surgeries May 11, 2020. For those with scheduled procedures, patients must test negative for Coronavirus/COVID-19 in order to have surgery within our facility. During Monday to Friday, patients will be swabbed or tested inside our surgery center. Patients will be swabbed or tested in their vehicles during Saturday and Sunday outside of our surgery center before their procedure.

• In accordance with our visitation guidelines, families of surgical patients cannot wait in surgical waiting rooms.

• Visitation for special cases such as end-of-life care and compassionate exemptions, exceptions for visitation may be allowed. This stipulation is at the discretion of the Nursing Supervisor.
