There are 3 types: IV (Intravenous), IM (Intramuscular injectable) and SQ (subcutaneous injectable).IV – Intravenous infusion therapy is commonly used to deliver fluids, blood and medications directly into the bloodstream. It’s a slow release of medication into the bloodstream. IM– Intramuscular infusion therapy delivers medicine directly into muscle tissue for fast absorption by the bloodstream. An intramuscular injection delivers all the medicine at one time with a needle. SQ– Subcutaneous infusions are absorbed into the body slower than other type of infusion therapy. Intravesical therapy is instillation of medicine into the bladder.Infusion Therapy at LittauerOur dedicated team of certified Registered Nurses collaborates with your physician to provide the latest infusion therapy treatments for various medical conditions.
