Nathan Littauer’s Birthing Center Celebrates with Friends of the Gloversville Public Library

GLOVERSVILLE, NY – In celebration of National Friends of Libraries Week 2023 in October, the Friends of the Gloversville Public Library presented the first baby born the week of October 22nd at The Nathan Littauer Birthing Center with a basket of books, clothing, and other gifts.

Luca Russo was born at Nathan Littauer’s Birthing Center at 2:39 a.m. on October 22, 2023, making him the gift recipient. He weighed 7 pounds 5 ounces, and was 20 inches long. He is the son of Benjamin Russo and Kathryn Romano.

“We are very thankful,” said Russo. “It is an incredibly nice gesture of the Friends of the Library, and we can’t wait to read some of the books to him.”

Friends of the Gloversville Public Library President Jean LaPorta said the organization does this activity annually for the first baby born at Nathan Littauer during National Friends of Libraries Week. Together, the organization has been donating the gift baskets for more than ten years. “We love doing this,” LaPorta added. “We hope these books will encourage an admiration of reading in the child, and that when they are old enough, they will choose to visit our library to read many more books.”

This gift basket donated to the Nathan Littauer Birthing Center from the Friends of the Gloversville Public Library is made annually by member donations. Those who are interested in becoming Friends of the Public Library should visit their website or by calling the library at (518) 725-2819.
