Books for Babies – 2024

Books for Babies!

The Johnstown Teachers’ Association completed its annual Books for Babies donation drive. The goal of the Books for Babies program is to promote early literacy skills and family bonding for children before they enter school.

Each year, the JTA collects new books and monetary donations from its generous members. The monetary donations are used to purchase more books and supplies for the drive.
Approximately 340 books were donated or purchased with donations this year. The books were donated to the Nathan Littauer Birthing Center on April 23rd. JTA members Stephanie Di Visconti and Barb VanDerwerken delivered the book donations to the hospital.

GLOVERSVILLE, NEW YORK (March 13, 2018)  – The Johnstown Teachers Association recently donated 400 books to the Nathan Littauer Hospital Birthing Center, as a part of their Community Outreach Program. Research shows that reading aloud to children is imperative for cognitive growth. And, it’s never too early to start reading to your child. Even newborns love to hear the rhythm and inflection of the human voice. The more you read to a baby, the more their brain will grow.

The books are distributed to new mothers at The Birthing Center to encourage reading from the start. In the photo are: NLH Birthing Center Ward Clerk, Lindsay Barter, left, Johnstown Teachers Assoc.
