GLOVERSVILLE, NY National Quilting Day is celebrated annually on the third Saturday in March. On Tuesday, March 21, 2023, Nathan Littauer Hospital and Nursing Home’s Birthing Center had received a beautiful, handmade quilt for the first baby born at the Birthing Center, in honor of National Quilting day. Baby girl Llewelyn Rae Gallup was born on March 20, 2023 at 4:03 a.m. She weighed 9 lbs. 4 oz. and was 20 inches in length. As the first baby born after the observance of National Quilting Day, Llewelyn and her parents, Emma Gallup and Anthony Covey, received the quilt from the Sew Busy Quilting Guild. “It was a pleasant surprise, in addition to bringing our baby girl into the world,” said Gallup. “We had no idea we’d receive something so nice, and it was a lovely gesture of the Sew Busy Quilting Guild.”

The quilt, which features a charming design of light pastel colors and animals, was lovingly crafted by members of the Sew Busy Quilting Guild. It is a one-of-a-kind creation that is sure to bring warmth and comfort to the new arrival of the Gallup and Covey family. “We are thrilled to be able to donate this quilt to the National Quilting Day baby at Nathan Littauer Hospital’s Birthing Center,” said Nancy Frank of the Sew Busy Quilting Guild. “As quilters, we know how important it is to provide comfort and warmth to those in need, and we hope that this quilt will bring joy to the new parents and their baby girl, Llewelyn. Making the quilt was fun, but delivering it and seeing Llewelyn was priceless.”

Nathan Littauer Hospital’s Birthing Center provides high-quality care to families in the surrounding communities, and the Sew Busy Quilting Guild is honored to support its efforts by donating this special quilt. “We are grateful to the Sew Busy Quilting Guild for their generous donation to our Birthing Center,” said Nathan Littauer Marketing and Public Relations Manager, Dakota Pike. “This beautiful quilt will be a cherished keepsake for the family and a reminder of the warm and caring community we have here in Gloversville.”
