Nathan Littauer Reveals Major Art Installation Posted on September 6, 2019 by Dakota PikeA Mosaic Waterfall was unveiled on Aug. 29 at Nathan Littauer Hospital & Nursing Home’s Reflection Garden. The mural is a staggering 12 feet high and has a width of almost 9 feet.“I wanted to thank everyone for making this possible,” says Laurence Kelly, President and CEO of Littauer. “We are grateful for: Glen Henry with Greenscapes Landscaping, Tim Insogna with Full Masonry Services, the Engineering Department, Environmental Services, as well as Nutritional Services. We should all be very proud of Joseph Rossi, who made the donation to fund the mural, Norma Cozzolino, President of the Auxiliary, Sue McNeil, Director of Volunteer Services, the Auxiliary members, and all volunteers. We would also like to especially thank the artists: Tammy Merendo, Linda Biggers, and Susan Ruscitto. We have many members and staff who have worked tirelessly to make this possible. They are very dedicated to what they do and this mural is a reflection of that.”Sue McNeil had given a heart-warming speech at the event: “For our hospital, it’s more than just healing physically. We also heal mentally and spiritually. This artwork represents our spirituality and humanity because a lot of love went into this mural and its making.” She states, “We also understand the demands practitioners and staff go through on a daily basis. So, we also wanted to create a space worthy of them. I think we succeeded.”To make the creation and installation more manageable, the mural was divided into six sections. The mural is comprised of pieces of stained glass, agate, and clay. The making of the mural had taken place inside Tammy Merendo, R.N.’s art studio in Amsterdam. Some of the Tiffany glass, which was lovingly found and scrubbed clean, was from the razed Second Presbyterian Church in Amsterdam. The flowers throughout the piece were from made from a barrette that belonged to Sammy, Sue McNeil’s granddaughter, who had unfortunately passed. The barrette was made into a mold to make flowers for the mural. Homemade stamps from the late Laurie Priest, who had passed away, were used to create some of the leaves in the mosaic. Both were used to represent loved ones who are no longer with us. The memories of those passed will continue to live-on through this installation.”“The transformation of the Reflection Garden alone is something to consider as well. It’s a beautiful space for patients, visitors, and staff to visit and enjoy,” says Mr. Kelly. “It is not just for employees of Nathan Littauer Hospital. It is a space that is dedicated to everyone and is welcomed to be used by all.”The waterfall mosaic mural is located in the Reflection Garden. The Garden is on the first floor between the hospital and the Primary Care Center. Patients who are staying at the hospital can ask staff to bring them to see the mural. Littauer’s Foundation Announces Annual Golf Tournament Posted on June 24, 2019July 3, 2019 by Dakota PikeThe 2019 Adirondack Challenge will take place July 12, 2019GLOVERSVILLE, NEW YORK – The Nathan Littauer Foundation is releasing details of The 2019 Adirondack Challenge, a golf tournament supporting the hospital’s mission for improved access to world-class healthcare. “This event celebrates the Hamilton County area’s support of Littauer services in the North County. Without our Primary Care Center in Speculator many people would have no access to safe, affordable and convenient healthcare,” stated Geoff Peck, Executive Director of the Foundation. He added, “We look forward to this event every year and it also happens to be a really fun day of golf.”“We always receive a very warm welcome from Mike O’Rourke and the staff at the Lake Pleasant Golf Course”, stated Kelly Colby, the Foundation Coordinator. She explained, “This golf tournament is now in its 16th year and many community supporters join us at the links or for lunch or both. I consider these people old friends.”The golf tournament will be held July 12, 2019 at the Lake Pleasant Golf Club. The shotgun start is at 8:00 am and teams will play a “Scrambled” scrambled format. Golfers will compete in two divisions: up to age 65 and 65 and over. Nathan Littauer Hospital & Nursing Home Honors Auxilians Posted on May 16, 2018May 22, 2018 by Dakota PikeThe Nathan Littauer Hospital & Nursing Home Auxiliary celebrating Auxilian Day on May 9, 2018GLOVERSVILLE, NEW YORK (May 9, 2018) – Nathan Littauer Hospital & Nursing Home is grateful to the Nathan Littauer Hospital & Nursing Home Auxiliary 77 members, and the over 11,000 hours they have volunteered over the past year. Within this time, the auxiliary provided volunteer hours serving Littauer patients, nursing home residents and visitors, maintained and ran the hospital gift shop, organized and facilitated blood drives, the annual Tree of Lights ceremony, the hospital Reflection Garden, annual Card Game & Party, knit newborn baby hats and delivered U.S. Flags to patient Veterans, and many other volunteer activities. In a luncheon held May 9 at Raindancer Restaurant in Perth, the auxilians and volunteers were recognized by Littauer President and CEO, Laurence Kelly, who praised the group for their monumental efforts.Littauer Director of Volunteer Services, Susan McNeil said to the group, “When you volunteer, you are making a commitment to share that most precious of resources, your time, and you have made life better for those who are in need. Your volunteerism is recognized, appreciated, valued and cherished.”New York State has more than 75,000 healthcare auxilians who initiate, fund, and volunteer for a wide variety of patient and family care services—from outpatient clinics to intensive care units. They sponsor community health fairs, health screenings, blood banks, and wellness lecture series; raise funds for hospital and nursing home equipment; and organize and underwrite outreach programs in their communities.
